A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Gilgit-Baltistan, #Pakistan, on 19 January, causing severe damage in remote high-altitude communities where access and communication remain constrained. In Chipurson Valley (Upper Hunza), preliminary assessments indicate 100+ homes destroyed and nearly 200 severely damaged, with families sheltering in extreme winter conditions (-18°C to 0°C) and urgent needs for winterised shelter, food, health services, safe water, and livelihood protection.![]()
